Happy Hour: JG McGuinness In Weston Town Center

​Weston's JG McGuinness opened in March in the location that Swig, a martini bar for moms, used to call home. The decor, reminiscent of every other high-end Irish pub, still looks new and well-maintained. But one look at the crowd and it's obvious: these roots might be growing from a different kind of tree. (Maybe a flower?)

This is more of a place that soccer moms

can go and convince each other they don't look a day over 35, while their kids learn a foreign language at a Montessori school; than the grimy, griddy pubs you're used to. But come on--  there's nothing wrong with that. I'd take a bar full of highlighted hair way before big beards and beer bellies, any day. Who wouldn't? It's a local place you can watch the game and meet some MILF's. And if it's Wednesday night, you can buy those MILF's half off drink from 8pm-close. Not so bad, Mr. McGuinness.

Live performances range from mellow acoustic sets to upbeat rock tributes, and they are all welcomed among the crowd. Sometimes more than others -- last time I was there, a group of 50-year-old cougars welcomed Hot Rod, our local Rod Stewart impersonator, by blowing him kisses and chanting, "Do you think I'm sexy?" I don't know about him, but I thought several of them were super hot. But so are their daughters -- who probably graduated high school the same year as me.

The other plus to the pub is they boast a beer system that shoots out some of the finest stout in the county. I'll vouch, my Guinness tasted pretty damn good with their burger, juicy and delicious. Also try the club, a mix of lettuce, tomato, turkey, ham, bacon, American cheese and a heart attack, it's sure to satisfy.

Overall, this has finally brought Weston a much needed place to grab a drink and a good time.
