The Five Best Halloween Candies

candy_woman.jpg
Back before coffee, Starbuck's addictions, and Red Bull-infused cocktails, sugar was the only way to get high.

Halloween was always the best holiday of the year because you would spend hours talking to strangers and collecting pillowcases full of candy.

The sugar high was a child's most sought-after state, comparable to reaching nirvana. OK, it was probably a drug addiction.

Don't worry about trying to remember your childhood favorites. We ransacked the internet and read your comments to present you with this list of the five best Halloween candies.

1. Reese's Cups

H.B. Reese, a former shipping foreman for Milton S. Hershey, was doing something right the day he invented the Reese's Cup, quit his job, and started his own candy company. The concoction is the perfect blend of chocolate and peanut butter. But what really impresses us (and the masses) was his foresight to put more peanut butter than chocolate into the candy. Here's to you, Reese's man!

2. Snickers

The Mars candy company produces genius -- delicious, delicious genius. The Snickers candy bar includes the combination of chocolate, caramel, and nougat, but the company has also created a line of simply creative advertising that kids remember: "Hungry? Grab a Snickers."

No, we're not hungry. But we'll eat one anyway. Thanks, Mars!

3. M&M's

Food items in brown paper bags typically aren't appetizing but there's something about M&M's that makes us look past its dull exterior. We still can't figure out why we love these candies so much. After all, each piece in the bag is a different color but they all taste the same.

Maybe it's the unassuming "M" printed on the front. Maybe it's the memories of watching Rugrats while chowing down. Or just maybe Mars Candy has successfully infiltrated American culture and created an icon.

4. Pop Rocks

Whoa. Are we old, or did trick-or-treating get much better? Pop Rocks are the pebble-like candies that give your mouth an effervescent feeling. It's weird. It's intriguing. You always want more. And no, drinking soda with your Pop Rocks will not kill you.
