The trucks will be lined up all over the block(s).
As we slowly -- one might even be tempted to say, painfully slow -- divest ourselves of the long, sleepy, hot hurricane-filled summer, the calendar is filling with food and drink events stacked end to end throughout Broward and Palm Beach Counties. Sunday will remain fairly quiet in the drink and dining world, however, as most events will understandably be centered around recognizing the 10th anniversary of 9/11.

After the jump, a look at six (alright, technically seven) food and drink events taking place in Broward and Palm Beach Counties this weekend:

Friday:

Food truck rally at Dolphins Day -- If, like I, you've consumed hours of "Friday Night Lights" on streaming Netflix this summer, you may be curious to see how a pep rally would pan out in the real world. Well, here's your chance. Fair weather fans and die hards alike are invited to a community pep rally for the Miami Dolphins from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Bubier Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. Couldn't give a rip about the "rah rah" element of the day? You can focus your energies on sampling one of the more than a dozen food trucks hosted by Gourmet Truck Expo. Among those signed up to appear are Grill Master Cafe, Marly's Cafe, Miso Hungry and Weenie Wagon.

Sushi & Stroll -- Start the long goodbye to summer with the final Sushi & Stroll of the season at Morikami Museum & Japanese Gardens. Granted, the roll offerings aren't on par with what you'd get at a nice sit-down sushi restaurant, but the atmosphere and reduced entry fee balance out the so-so-ness of the California rolls. Grab a glass of wine or sake and do a lap around the grounds. The walk is 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. and admission is $7 for adults ($5 for kids). If you want to attend a Taiko drumming performance, it'll cost an additional $2.

Burger Bash at Whole Foods in Boca Raton -- For those who don't consume animal flesh, the upscale burger revolution in South Florida is a bit like sitting inside with Chicken Pox and watching from a window as all the other kids play in the backyard pool. This family-friendly dinner from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at the Whole Foods cafe will feature a veg-friendly spin on the fancy-schmancy burger trend with a menu featuring a veggie burger dubbed the "New York Times" burg, salad, gazpacho and a fruity pastry dessert. The cost is $10 and pre-registration is requested. Call 561-447-0000.

Stone Brewing Co. cooking class -- Not all cooking classes are about standing around watching someone mince garlic and talk about deglazing techniques - sometimes you also get to down some craft beer. The Stone Brewing Co. cooking demo at 6:30 p.m. at the Publix Apron's Cooking School in Plantation will teach you how to pair the California brewery's Arrogant Bastard Ale with chilled spicy sausage pasta salad and Stone India Pale Ale with crab gazpacho among other pairings. The class is $45. Can't make it Friday night? The same class (at the same price and same time) will be at the Boca Raton school on Saturday.

Saturday:

Dada anniversary party -- In the "Here Today, Gone Tomorrow" South Florida dining landscape, every year marked on the calendar is a triumph for our local mainstays. This weekend, Dada in downtown Delray Beach will celebrate its 11th anniversary with live music, "complimentary cocktails" and a preview of the fall menu's hors d'oeuvres. The party is 8 p.m. 'til 2 a.m. with music by Poppa E. & the E Band, Rachel Andes Band and the Hard Richards.

Gourmet on Wheels in Oakland Park -- At least seven food trucks will make an appearance from 6 to 9 p.m. near the intersection of NE 12th Street and Oakland Park Boulevard in Oakland Park. If you like to sip an adult beverage while slamming your Latin Burger or Nacho Bizness offerings, sidle up to Big Dog Saloon, which will have its patio open for food truck rally attendees.
