Riddlez Cafe: New Sandwich Shop in Fort Lauderdale

Last week, Clean Plate Charlie stumbled into Riddlez Cafe, located in the shops below the parking garage at 100 SE First St. -- near the main Broward County library (near the intersection of Andrews Avenue and Broward Boulevard). This is the former home of Bob & Wilson's and, before that, Sushi Ko-ko.

The place offers

breakfast as well as sandwiches and salads for the downtown work crowd. Items that stand out from the menu include a stuffed waffle sandwich ($2.50), a roast beef and blue cheese sandwich ($8.75), a roast turkey and Brie sandwich ($9.25), and a Caprese salad ($9). For sandwiches, you get a choice of bread (telera, artisan whole wheat roll, spinach or wheat wrap, or cracked whole wheat).

I tried the roasted veggie sandwich ($8.75) made with roasted squash, zucchini, red peppers, fresh basil, and herbed cream cheese. It was really tasty and fresh. A corn salad was a nice alternative to the usual sides of potato salad or chips. Though I usually like to get in and out of a lunch spot on the single-digit side of $10, my total for a water and a sandwich was $10.62.

Owner Jose is a friendly guy who told me that his brother knows Bob & Wilson from their days working together at Panera and offered to take over the lease since they moved their shop to Las Olas Boulevard. The name Riddlez is because they "like to keep it light." They'll show Comedy Central instead of news on the flat screens, he said.
