Heineken Forced to Pull Dead Kennedys Song From Commercial

A Heineken ad featuring the Dead Kennedys' "Too Drunk to Fuck" has been pulled over concerns that it would encourage binge drinking.

The classic punk anthem that has long served as a satirical ode to brainless behavior was used in an ad to promote Heineken's Kronenbourg 1664 beer. In a statement released to the media Thursday, the band claims to be "furious" with the beer company for what it is calling "unauthorized use of music to promote beer."

A lounge cover the Dead Kennedys' classic ran in a banner advertisement on Spotify. Several complaints came in to independent watchdog group the Portman Group. Those complaints were investigated and the ad was found to be in breach of a rule that bans advertisers from "encouraging irresponsible or immoderate drinking."

You might remember that this song was previously used in a rape scene in the Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez's collaborative exploitation flick Grindhouse. Former frontman and songwriter Jello Biafra made a very public statement at the time saying that the choice went against everything the Dead Kennedys stood for. He has yet to make a statement regarding the Heineken ad.
