Republicans Against Limiting Kids' Unhealthy Food Ads

Mmm, tastes like diabetes.
Doctors along with the Obama administration have proposed a way to change childrens' diets in an effort to halt the obesity epidemic. The suggestion is to limit or ban fast-food or unhealthy ads from kids' TV shows.

Republicans have responded with a resounding "no," fearing that despite the voluntary guidelines promoted by several government agencies, companies who don't comply with the healthier standards will face government retaliation.

The Huffington Post reported on this dilemma July 6, explaining that in response, the GOP are "attempting to delay the guidelines by including a provision in next year's Federal Trade Commission budget that would require the government to study the potential costs and impacts of the guidelines before implementing them."

If these voluntary measures were imposed it could help stop American kids from eating the $110 billion worth of fast-food they currently consume each year.

I get confused when supposedly freedom-loving liberals want to pass a government law to try to solve virtually every problem.  Perhaps children's parents should be responsible for what children eat - instead of the Nanny State. Please keep politics out of the Dining Section, so you don't embarass yourself any further.

Because they think they know better than you, Raising. You're too stupid to raise your own kids. Kiddie bloggers know more than you do. If you're choices are only broccoli or Spinach, you'll make a choice that they're confortable with.

Remember that "liberals" also aren't "comfortable" when you make the choice to have a child rather than to abort it, or when you complain that you worked 70 hours a week to build a business and maybe you shouldn't have to pay more so some union slob who rushes for the door at 3:45 can retire with some ridiculous pension when he's 55.

If you can't understand the issue, why do you chose to write about it?

Why don't you do a post on why it is that when there were far fewer "healthy choices", there were far fewer fat people? Maybe kids are fat because they play video games instead of running around outside? Or because their parent have screwed up their metabolism by feeding them fat-free crap instead of real food?

Why must you ruin your kid's lives in an attempt to convince yourself that you're not just a big dope? Let kids be kids. Buy them a ball instead of a video game.

Of course the repubs are against it.  It might touch the bottom line of their rich corporate masters.Something needs to be done though.  With all the product placement, it DOES affect what people want.  And kids are particularly susceptible.  Why do you think they generally always want McDonalds over all other fast food?

Or maybe because they believe it's the parents responsibility, not the governments. And it's the rich you guys have to complain about. They pay the most taxes, yet you complain its still not enough. Get over it. They still pay plenty of taxes, and the democrats always have to act like after a person makes a certain amount, they are greedy and evil, unless they give them campaign money! They elected to represent everyone not just the middle class, and not just the wealthy like you imply Rebublicans do. If they only represented the rich, they would not be in office.

It's not ads, cartoon characters or even the companies that feed the children unhealthy foods, it's the parents and guardians.

Stop trying to blame everything but yourself for having an unhealthy kid.
