Food Blogger Catalogs Freshness

Mike Moskos has put an enormous amount of time and effort into his blog, which he describes as a compendium of "the best possible local sources for truly-fresh, nutrient-dense artisanal food, dairy, eggs, fish, meat, produce and provisions."

And comprehensive it is. Moskos has but one mission: to let locals know that South Florida is far from a food desert.

He's done a bang-up job so far. Moskos can tell you how to find every community garden between Delray Beach and Key West. Want to get some wheatgrass? Done. How about fermented

goat-milk kefir and yogurt? Uruguayan grass-fed beef? It's all here.

Even small, individual farms who sell in big quantities are listed here.

Moskos designed the site for folks who care enough to find fresh, healthy food, eschewing the evil axis of Publix/Winn Dixie/Whole Foods. He admits such people ("a tiny subset") will have to do a lot of driving.

"I look forward to the day when every empty, decaying field in Miami has produce growing on it," he says. "And if not produce, then farm animals like the chickens in the field across from the Brickell Metrorail station."

He's also down with sharing his information with anyone and everyone:

"You may use this list (or portions of this list) any way you see fit (with or without alteration), with or without credit given to this website. Feel free to copy it wholesale and call it your own; we encourage it."
