51 Supper Club to Dish in Palm Beach Gardens

51supper.jpg
You won't have to sing for your supper but you can dance to it at the new 51 Supper Club and Lounge (11701 Lake Victoria Gardens Ave., 561-622-3500), which opens next week in the giant Downtown at the Gardens mall.

A throwback to the days before DJ stations, grazing menus and molecular gastronomy, 51 promises Euro-centric cuisine "inspired by Old World traditions wisely revised and respectfully embellished for a new generation of diners." Whether that "new generation of diners" is going to rock out to the smooth croonings of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis, Jr., in 51's retro piano lounge is another matter. But who knows? Stranger things have happened.

What's happening in the dining room is the purview of exec chef Armand Vanderstigchel, who's done everything from cook for Matt Lauer to develop recipes for Log Cabin maple syrup. No menu is up yet for 51, but if it's anything like its "sister restaurant," Brasserie 214 in New York, expect dishes like veal croquettes with Dijon sauce, Polish-style chicken scallopini with smoked duck bacon, and the beer-braised short rib stew called Carbonnade Flamandes.

The place itself looks swanky enough, with lots of dangling chandeliers, big half-moon banquettes and an undulating, tile-faced, mirror-backed bar. Oh, and if you're one of 51's "most loyal and frequent customers," you get chauffeur service in a silver Rolls-Royce, which in these days of $4 a gallon gas, is pretty damn retro too.

Might be a hot spot for some, but for us the service was lousy, the food just OK and very minimal for the price....server forgot to bring my veggies, so I was served a slight piece of salmon on the plate with nothing else....seems to be that might seem odd to someone serving food.  I had to ask the waiter to bring some paper napkins to put under the water glasses as the condensation was dripping all over the table.  And when I did that, he said, " oh is this your first time here"  and as I said YES ( I mumbled in my brain, and most likely my last).  An interesting reply to asking if he had paper napkins, don't ya think.  We were served " sweet potato cream brulee", which at first sounded promising....however, the sugar was not completely melted and when we were asked how we liked it, we said, well, there's a ton of sugar on the top of this....he replied, oh, looks like she didn't melt it all the way....AND we had to pay for our entire meal...no offer to remove the veggies I never got or to remove the creme brulee we didn't eat.  Then I was charged more for my glass of wine than what I ordered.....and had to ask for that correction.  All in all, the experience was lousy and we definitely will not be back.

Bad service Music too loudFood and drinks take all night

Place sucks! I went back 3 times hoping it would fix all the obvious problems and nothing changed.... Now they offer raffles for prizes??? How about Just improve the flaws and maybe it might become successful.

Piano but no piano player what a waste.

Save your money and go to palm beach or seasons 52.

51 supper club-Food is decent but the music is way too loud in the lounge. Service is horrible and it takes forever to get a martini. They have a piano but no one ever plays it. They always either have a Dj or the same singer sining the same songs night after night. I'm extremely disappointed as it has so much potential. Music should never be so loud during dinner, we could not enjoy anything. I wish it was more like seasons 52 till 11pm with some actual enjoyable live music then more like Cucina Dell arte after hours.

the least of your worries is parking.  definitely not a problem.  however...

i went with a friend who is a private chef.  i love going out with this friend b/c of her incredible food knowledge.  (she graduated at the top her of class at c.i.a.).

cosmopolitans:  please remember the vodka.  it was cherry red and it should be cotton candy pink.

bread basket:  interesting selections of breads and the butter and white bean spread was yummy.

salads:  she:  the wedge:  gorgeous presentation and she said it was fabulous.  me:  house salad with balsamic dressing.  how can balsamic dressing be tasteless and not tangy?

entrees:  she:  mussels.  well, that got sent back b/c half were not even opened.  very little broth and the tiniest, most dried up mussels i've ever seen.  me:  $41 for a 8 oz. filet mignon that i believe was a 6 ounce, it was seasoned perfectly.  bland mashed potatoes.  three halves of white asparagus.  three halves?!  seriously. and tasteless.  the plate color was non-existent, brown and white.

dessert which was on the house b/c of the mussel problem:  apple streudel.  um well.  we have a split decision.  she said the pastry was too wet.  but i thought the filling was tasty; it had raisins and nuts.  whipped cream does not go with streudel and it lacked flavor anyway.

the music was too loud for "a supper club" and i come from a big city so i know super clubs.  the furnishings were cool.  the waitress was a bit of "a hoverer."

next time....dirty martini.

I have not heard of this place. But Grimaldi's Coal Fired Pizza will be opening up sometime this month as well. D@TG is definitely picking up steam with the new owners.

great, but where are all of their patrons going to park?  with only 3 or 4 places open (movies, yard house, whole foods) there is already no parking at night.  my guess is that these new restaurants will go out of business because people can't park so they won't go.

No parking? There's a 900 space free garage no more than 500 feet away from 51 Supper Club and Dirty Martini.    And they have free valet parking at the front door!  I live next door, and walk over there nightly.  Last night the place was jammed, and they had flaggers directing cars into the garage. No issue with parking, and lots of very happy customers.  DATG is really hopping. Clematis St. North.

there is going to be a full service valet out front and the DTAG has built a huge parking facility less than 100 yards away from 51. I hope that helps Lord..
