Gourmet for Life Abruptly Shutters Doors

Gourmet for Life, a South Florida-based diet meal plan company with locations in Deerfield Beach and Boca Raton, has abruptly shut its doors. The company was operating up until Friday, when it suddenly closed, leaving customers without their services.

A call to Gourmet's toll-free number yields the cryptic message, "The company is experiencing several challenges. We are working to resolve them. We will keep you informed of our progress.Thank you."

Clean Plate Charlie reached a dietitian listed on the company's website, Cathy Clark-Reyes. She said she hasn't been associated with the meal-plan company for several years.

Kathleen Berzon, PR director for the Fresh Diet, a competitive meal plan company, told Clean Plate Charlie that she learned of the closing when a GFL employee called her looking for employment. He said he was getting ready to go to work on Sunday when he was called and told not to bother. Berzon also said that she offered for her company to step in and help GFL by taking over the existing client base and received a text by a GFL official stating that "he has no interest in giving or selling his client list. He feels it's pointless and his customers are soured now anyway."

Gourmet for Life's programs range from $34.75 for a week of breakfasts delivered to your door to the premiere plan, in which customers would receive three meals and two snacks daily for 84 days for a whopping $2,515.80. This means that if Gourmet for Life closes permanently, some clients could be bilked out of thousands of dollars.

The Gourmet for Life shut down is part of a much bigger story about a guy named Joe or Joseph Langner, aka Joe Ragner, aka Joe Ragner; aka Joe Wagner whose companies, including this Gourmet for Life lures potential distributors into buying a distributorship for different companies, including America Wellness, ABC Wellness, etc, etc.  You speak to supposedly REAL distributors who are doing well, only to find out that they are using prepaid cell phones that are out of minutes and you can't get them anymore.

We are decorating our beach house and have 2 sets of sliding glass doors with southern exposure. Some one suggested shutters. Our furniture is the south beach look. Have a great view but will have lots of sun. We will be using the doors alot as they go out to the front deck where we dine out. Any suggestions

I'm a vendor who supplied GFL with the lunch coolers used for a majority of the deliveries. They owe us over $5000, and the credit card on file is obviously declined each time we run it. Has anyone figured out a contact, or have filed a lawsuit against them. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Just call your credit card company (or bank) to get reimbursed. They are insured for fraud on things like i.e. when you prepay and the company closes. Just tell them the specifics and they will reimburse you within days. I know because I just did it :)

We are so disappointed. We lost $2300 because our plans didn't run out until the end of May. Do we have any rights? The Fresh Diet's offer made me really angry. Why would I trust anyone again?

Screwed out of $800 here - called the credit card company already - they tried to sell me a "deal" for 3 months ($2700) but it included 30 days of free meals. GFL could have handled this so much better, for them not to contact their clients, at least an email, but nothing! Poor poor for people dependent on their services.

I called the Fresh Diet the day GFL went down. The service started yesterday and it is definitely a cut above GFL.

My response to GFL's first communication since leaving us in the lurch:

Dear Mr. Meyer:

The way you elected to suspend your operation is a disgrace and shows what little regard you have for your customers.

All that would have been needed not to "sour" your customers would have been an email on Sunday (when you advised your drivers not to come in) telling us what the situation was.

The real shame for you is that in today's financial environment, your customers would have understood and supported you though your tough times. As today is the first communication since your shut down,you should really take a good look at how poorly you have handled this.

I have already contacted Fresh Diet and there food started arriving yesterday. So I will not be paying for the April charge you put on my credit card for the final month.

Another bilked customer here. Found out they were no longer in service when I didn't get my delivery, and they didn't answer the phone, nor return phone calls or emails. :(
