No. 73: Tapas Sharing Platter from Johnny V

Charlie loves a good cheese. Hard, soft, mild, bold; we don't discriminate. Johnny V has an extensive cheese menu that includes cheese from around the world. But when this overwhelms, we opt for Johnny V's signature Tapas Sharing Platter.

A small cup of roasted garlic marinated olives sits atop a white plate lined with several kinds of meats and cheeses: grilled chorizo, jamon serrano, mahon, manchego, cabrales, and idiazabel cheeses.

Order with your dining companion and challenge each other to different combinations: buttery manchego with salty serrano ham wrapped around it. Creamy and crumbly cabrales piled on top of chorizo, followed by a nibble of olive. Mmm, tapas heaven!

Mr. Dennis, i do know your name....van..........will not reveal it because i respect your wishes....keep up the fantastic blogging....

You know, I always see pairs of women ordering this, and I rarely see anyone eat more than half of it. 73rd is about right.

Do you work there? Or just frequent the place? My dining companion and I clear it every time.

One thing good about a rotating blogger pool is that nobody knows who I am :)

The problem with this "dish" is that it's really not Tapas. Tapas are small plates. People expect something different. This is a cheese board, plain and simple. While you obviously know what it is when you order it, I think a lot of people don't really expect what they get. I've seen more than one couple leave an awful lot on the plate in obvious disappointment..

Fair enough, in terms of definition it does not meet the traditional definition of tapas. It is a sharing platter, as traditional tapas are. But it is a large plate built for two. On the flip side, if you've dined at Johnny V, you know what to expect.
