No. 72: Mushroom in Tin Foil at Marumi Sushi

The first time we went to Marumi Sushi, our attention was immediately drawn to the small plates and side dishes portion of the menu. Scanning for something different to try, we saw "Mushroom in Tin Foil". Rather nondescript, this could be a number of things. How is it prepared? Is it just one giant mushroom? We decided to take a gamble that would become an addiction!

Peeling back the neatly folded tinfoil, steam escapes and we breathe in the scent of a variety of mushrooms. Enoki, white button, shiitake, portabella, and chanterelle mushrooms sit in a golden pool of butter sauce. The sauce has hints of citrus and sake, brightening up the earthy, meaty mushrooms.

The portion is just right, and would even make a good lunch accompanied with some of Marumi's crispy bok choy.

Bok choy was on the list last year.

I'm actually not a huge fan of the foil mushrooms, though. :-(

Really, John? Neither was my husband. There is so much right about Marumi's menu, I could easily take repeat trips for a number of things on it.

The bok choy is the star of such a lunch pairing, so I expect that to be higher on the list than 72?
