Yep, you heard that right. Waste Management Inc., the largest trash collector and processor in the United States, is opening up an organic recycling facility just south of Lake Okeechobee. The facility is designed to process food, yard waste, and clean wood into organic compost for the gardener and lawncare market.

Truth is, Waste Management is just responding to the rapid national growth in demand for organic products of all kinds.

Take it from someone who grows a solid percentage of his family's food, the most common question people often have is,

"Are you organic?" And the same goes for lawncare and all kinds of chemicals we use to grow stuff. Organic is big, and the company estimates that about a third of the entire waste stream qualifies as organic.

Ultimately, Waste Management is hoping to start producing bagged organic compost for the consumer market beginning this spring. And you know what? I'll probably buy some. Truth is, it's got to smell better than my own compost.
