You've been hooked for years. After all, who is the one who's been getting you out of bed and into work on time? Who's kept you warm and cozy during all those cold winter nights and stayed up with you on all the long drives back home from Georgia the numerous times you ventured off to visit your aunt Suzie and uncle Fred?

Well, it's time to end your dependency now! Coffee is a quick fix and when over-consumed, often leaves behind unwanted baggage--leaving no questions on why eliminating your constant coffee binging should be one of your goals in 2011.

Not convinced? Consider these 5 harmful effects of coffee after the jump.

1. Coffee triggers inflammation. Inflammation is harmful for our health and self-esteem; it has been continuously linked back to being the root of many harmful and chronic illnesses. If your health alone will not give you an incentive to cut down, maybe your vanity will! According to Dr. Perricone, inflammation contributes to saggy skin and acne.

2.Coffee is a diuretic. The caffeine in coffee is a diuretic and increases the amount of calcium we excrete in our urine for several hours after we drink it - this is particularly harmful for those suffering from Osteopenia or Osteoporosis.

3. Coffee affects our blood sugar and cortisol levels. This is not due to the caffeine in coffee, but is due to the organic acids coffee contains. Cortisol is a natural hormone in our body, but when we produce too much of it, it counteracts it's original purpose, causing impaired cognitive performance, weight gain, decreases in muscle gains, and causes high blood pressure.

4. Coffee has pesticides. Unfortunately, it is not only fruits and vegetables we have to worry about; coffee contains high levels of pesticides due to its growing process. Pesticides often leave lingering residues on many crops including coffee, which we consume and store in our bodies. Pesticides are poisonous, enough said?!

5. Coffee stains your teeth. With teeth whitening kits on the rise, being sold at every drug store and supermarket from almost every brand imaginable, it is no wonder why they are such a hit; America's addiction to coffee! Coffee stains your teeth, especially if you add sugar. Stop handing over your hard earned cash to Crest and invest it in something better!

The average American drinks up to 3 cups a coffee day, according to a spokesman for the National Coffee Association; this statistic does not do us justice. No one is saying you should completely eliminate coffee from your life. Rather it would be highly beneficial to your health if you cut down drastically on your consumption.

Like many stimulants, caffeine is highly addictive and initially, may be hard to give up. For starters, coffee drinkers should attempt to only treat themselves to one cup a day and eventually replace their morning coffee with tea. Green tea, for example, is an excellent choice since it contains many antioxidants as well as a healthful substance called theanine.

Theanine has many benefits and actually counteracts the negative effects of caffeine. Don't have a taste for green tea? Try Roobios tea! Many coffee drinkers favor Roobios tea for its warm and nutty flavors and yet it's still very beneficial to our health. It is important to know that like coffee, tea is much better when brewed loose. Loose tea may be bought at specialty and grocery stores as well as on the Internet. Hit up your local Teavana store for a wide selection of fresh, loose tea. Teavana has an exceptional selection and has several locations throughout South Florida.

But what he's saying is helpful!  I'm trying to quit because, long term, I feel like crap when I drink it.  Why me?  Some people have no problem.  Not necessary to criiticize.

Well coffee can give us lots of benefits. But we also have to remember that too much of it is not good. There are many people out there who keeps forgetting about it.

Not only coffee may stain your teeth, but there also beverages and certain food that may cause yellowing. That's why it is really important that you regularly brush your teeth, and practice good oral hygiene. It would be better if you never miss any appointments with your dentist so you can monitor your oral health.

Since I began drinking coffee I have noticed my hair lost has increased. Could this be due to the increase production of cortisol?.... hmmmm

For an enriched coffee that actually has health benefits, check out Gano Cafe. It contains ganoderma lucidum, which is an herb that has over 800 clinical trials showing its health benefits on www.pubmed.gov. You can find the coffee and rooibos tea at www.buyoutstandingcoffee.net.

To live a full and enjoyable life, every man needs at least three bad habits. Mine? Drinking coffee (that includes espresso in the afternoon), drinking at least two alcoholic drinks a night, and smoking at least one cigar a day. Does it make me healthier? No. Does it make me feel good? Yes. So what if I die at 78 instead of living to 95 and spending the last 15 year of my life pissing in a plastic bag and shitting in my pants while some 300 lb nurse washes me off every morning with a garden hose.

I don't particularly care for pious twats who want to convert us to their bogus religions.

Apparently someone is totally unaware of the fact that green tea also contains pesticides. Worse yet, the most abundant pesticide found in many green teas is DDT.

I quit drinking coffee over a year and a half ago due to my Hep-C which does not like caffeine. I switched to dandelion root and milk thistle. It was the best thing that has happened to me in years! I'm no longer in drug withdrawal every time I wake-up. I don't have to spend the first hour of the day drinking crap that makes me run to the bathroom every twenty minutes for the rest of the morning. And I don't give my money to the drug pushers...er...I mean companies that sell this insideously addictive substance. Plus, my hep-c is now under control and all my numbers are normal. How about I sing at your funeral, Ralph?

No one is more boorish and boring than someone who has reformed themselves from their own habit.

u r nuts. when u r in the box at the funeral home post a sign next to your box: "I didn't drink coffee and I died anyway but my life was one big boring green tea snooze". Life is just too short with all the things written about how coffee is good for you, how can you be bothered to write this drivel?

That's not true. Green tea gives me way more brain power than coffee, and it isn't a jittery fast paced blur. It's calm and collected.
