Direct From Philly in Deerfield Beach: Delicious Cheesesteaks in a Gas Station

Pat's Cheesesteak, stuffed "wit onions" and cheese whiz.
I don't normally condone eating any meal inside of a gas station.

While they may have quick bites, they're normally tasteless and not filling. That is, of course, unless you've been inside the Chevron gas station on South Military Trail in Deerfield Beach.

There are no signs around the area telling you about the cheesesteak gem Direct from Philly. In fact, with fast food joints like Wendy's and Burger King on either side of the gas station, you are more likely to give up trying. Friendly advice: do not give up.

Once you arrive, you'll have your option of nearly 10 different varieties of Philly cheesesteaks. Really, it comes down to liking Pat (cheese whiz) or Gino (provolone cheese) better. (Here's  a history lesson on Pat and Geno.)

You can try both if you'd like (I did), but there really is no need. Pat's is far better. Sliced rib eye, grilled onions and cheese whiz stuffed into a 9-inch hoagie roll imported from Philadelphia. For gas station grub, I was elated. Especially for a joint that has been stuffing hoagies for only four months.

For a sandwich that is $6.95, you can add a drink for $1.29 and still go back to work with a full belly and wallet. If you're close enough, Direct from Philly may even deliver. Most order to go, since there are about eight total stools for dining in.

If you've got some extra room, don't doubt the wings. For $5.95, you get 10 wings tossed in your choice of mild, medium, hot, BBQ or - my personal favorite - garlic teriyaki. They were crispy, juicy and exceptionally large for the price. I would have stayed just for the wings.

Don't follow the online menu. They are actually open 10 a.m. - 10 p.m. and no longer serve breakfast or cold sandwiches, due to the high demand of Philly cheesesteaks.

DIRECT FROM PHILLY IS AN AWESOME SHOWCASE AND THE SOLE OWNER STEVEN RAO IS A MASTER MIND IN GETTING THIS TO HAPPEN. HE HAS BEEN THROUGH MANY OBSTACLES IN GETTING THIS PULLED THROUGH. HE HAS DONE IT WITH FLYING COLORS AND HAS DONE AN EXCELLENT JOB IN PRESENTING AN EXCELLENT CHEESE STEAK WITH EXCELPTIONAL FLOVR AND SERVICE. GINOS AND PATS FROM PHILLY ARE GETTING OLD AND HONESTLY, TURNOVER CHANGES EVERYTHING. STEVEN'S DEDICATION AND TOTAL CONCENTRATION ON TRAINING HIS STAFF AND SHOWING THEM THE LEVEL OF SERVICE THEY SHOULD BE, MAKE A HUGE DIFFERENCE. GREAT JOB STEVEN!

I had a guy in my office here in Deerfield that referred "a philly cheese steak place in the Chevron gas station." My co-worker that told me about them was referred by his brother once he found out where our office was located. They blow "Al's Philly Cheese steaks" place out of the water! Subway? Publix? forget all that. If you want a Cheese steak "Direct From Philly", then get from them "Direct". I get one once a week or two. It's in Deerfield Beach in the Chevron Gas Station near the intersection of Military and SW 10th.

I first heard about Direct from Philly from a friend who lives in the neighborhood. She told me I had to try their cheesesteaks not only because they were the best she's ever had, but because they have excellent customer service and really go above and beyond to make sure they're customers are happy. I have to say, this place is all she made it out to be & much, much more. Everything they serve is excellent and I couldn't believe how big the portions are for the price! The owner & staff are friendly, curteous, & polite, and truly on a first-name basis with their customers. With quick delivery times, an immaculately clean kitchen, and a highly professional staff, this place has it all! I would give them a 5 star rating any day. A MUST-have cheesesteak experience!!!
