The Detox is just one of the many vegetable juices you can get at the Nutrition Cottage in Delray Beach.
After the holidays - especially New Year's Eve - you may hear people throw around the idea of a "cleanse." The word alone brings to mind seven days of self-induced suffering with purge-worthy concoctions and ingredients like chili powder and maple syrup.

So you know you want to do something good for your body - you just don't want it to be painful, too. That's why juicing - which can supplement a more healthy diet or be used as a fast - may be just what you're looking for.

We stopped by to see Mark Stowe, Jr., the man behind the juice bar at the Nutrition Cottage in Delray Beach, to get the low down on juicing. Mark gave us his top three recipes for detoxing your digestive tract, bolstering your immune system, and cleansing your entire body.

Be warned: this isn't the Beyonce version of the detox diet. It won't rid you of 20 pounds in two weeks, or render you rock star ready overnight. But adding a little vegetable juice to your daily regime will help you feel a hell of a lot better.

Why? The juice from organic vegetables and fruits - including some very specific ones - are rich in nutrients that will speed up the process of detoxification. It also floods your body with enzymes, vitamins and minerals perfectly suited for quick absorption. The result: a healthy boost that gives a helping hand reversing the ill effects of holiday related overindulging and boozing.

Juicing provides a rich source of live enzymes essential to the digestive process. Basically, enzymes break down foods into nutrients your body can quickly digest.
The fresher the juice, the more oxygen and nutrients injected directly into your cells (that's why V8 isn't even comparable to juicing) producing an alkalizing effect. As your body releases toxic acids, detoxifying begins.

So, if you're seriously looking for a way to help rid your body of the toxins you've consumed over the past three months or so. (Or, let's face it, most of your adult life), give these recipes a try. Better yet, stop by the Nutrition Cottage and take a taste-test today. It may just change the way you look at vegetables.

If you have a juicer at home, you may already be familiar with these recipes. If not, head over to the Nutrition Cottage where you can sample any one of their more than 20 fruit and vegetable concoctions (or create one of your own) and take one more step towards a healthier, happier 2011.

I love juicing and I bet most of us are into juicing nowadays because its popularity and media and marketing took a very part in creating awareness regarding this matter.
