Can't decide what to do on New Year's Eve or can't afford a pricy restaurant bash?

Clematis Street to the rescue.

The 500 block of West Palm Beach's resurgent dining-nitelife venue will be the site of a free block party beginning at 8 p.m. Friday, Dec. 31, and continuing until, well. . . until everyone is so smashed there's nothing left to do but stagger home and sleep it off.

On the menu for Clematis Countdown 2011 are live concerts, food vendors, a thousand bucks' worth of cash and prizes and, in a low-rent sort of salute to Times Square, a ping-pong ball drop at midnight. The cheapskate city won't be shooting off any fireworks to celebrate the demise of 2010, but supposedly the pyrotechnics to be shot off by its snooty neighbor across the Intracoastal will be visible to the proletariat on Clematis.

Of course, restaurants up and down Clematis will be offering their own NYE parties, from a free mini-bottle of bubbly with every two pizza slices purchased at Pizza Girls to a $135 dinner for two (including caviar and champagne) at Pistache. For more details, go here. And party hearty.
