I'm Eating What?! Sugarcoated Chickpeas

More sperm, quick blood, sugar, and protein. Truly a complete snack.
​We were going to treat y'all to a steaming bowl of schav this week, but alas, we spent all kinds of time heating the stuff only to later discover it is supposed to be served chilled. Uh, yeah. So I guess we'll slurp some of that down next week. In the meantime, we needed something quick to chow on, so we grabbed a bag of sugarcoated chickpeas at a Middle Eastern market and popped a few carnival-colored bits in our pie holes.

If we could use only one word to describe these, weird comes to mind. Their candy shells are crunchy and sweet, as would be expected, but then the dried chickpeas inside are dry as a bone and lacking in flavor. Second, their consistency is almost sand-like, making chewing more of a task than a pleasurable experience. It's almost impossible to enjoy a pile of these things without a glass of water nearby, and don't expect to have more than a handful if you want to prevent a stomachache. And then we experienced a strange perfume flavor legitimized by an ingredient listed as "flower's water." Ironically the listing also mentions "natural color," though Tiffany blue seems a rather unorganic hue. 

Regardless of its oddities, the sugary shells, appealing shades, and convenient pea-sized morsels make this an acceptable treat for popping. And it seems there's even more reason to indulge in this confection from Jordan: nutrition. Believe it or not, these critters are really high in protein, and they provide calcium, zinc, folate, and dietary fiber.

Need more reason to indulge? Chickpeas are naughty by nature; they have been known to increase sperm and provoke menstruation.

Who should eat these? Men who want to knock someone up, women who would like to know quickly that they aren't knocked up, and anyone who wants to swallow a sweet treat and a salad topping in one gulp.
