The place: Triple Eight Lounge
|Lyndsay Anderson |
at the Falcon House, 116 NE Sixth Ave., Delray Beach 33483.
The hours: Happy Hour runs Monday through Saturday from 5 to 7 p.m.
The deal: Half-price on all drinks during happy hour. Look out for the Triple Eight Vodkas on offer; these award-winning spirits come from the proprietor's hometown of Nantucket. All of the food is priced at $8.88 or under, and there are a number of Falcon House favorites on the menu, including the "Famous Falcon House Tuna Poke," which
is as good as ever, and some new dishes, like the Veracruz Style Fish
Tacos and the juicy and delicious slow-roasted BBQ pork buns. Text 888 from your phone and
you will be texted back a coupon that gives you $5 off your bill -- but you
will need to head to the bar to get the number (and you may just order another drink while you're there).
The digs: Set in a historic house, Triple Eight Lounge has bright-red walls, a first-class music system, and a casual vibe. The crowd tends to stick to the long indoor bar or the outside garden bar, but there is also seating out front of the house in case you fancy something a little quieter. Music has always been a central focus of this bar, and the staff will happily consider your request or spend time chatting about the tunes.

The verdict: Many Delray locals consider the Falcon House to be a Delray Beach
institution, but it took a fall from grace for a while. Chat to an old
fan of the Falcon House and he will wax lyrical about the days when
the bar staff knew everyone's name, girls had the urge to dance on the
bar, and the music was fantastic, night after night.
Kurt Alderman, a longtime fan of the Falcon House, recently took it over. He and the team have gotten rid of the linen tablecloths, lured the favorite bar staff back behind the bar, and made sure the menu is as tasty and as well-executed as people had come to expect from this joint. He renamed it Triple Eight Lounge at the Falcon House and added a few modern details. The name may be slightly different, but it is fair to say that the Falcon House that people knew and loved is back!
