​ The Spot: Grand Lux Café in Boca Raton

The Hours: Monday - Friday, 4:00-6:30 p.m., Bar Only

The Deets: Grand Lux Café has extremely large portions for relatively decent prices. When those prices get sliced in half for two and a half hours a day, the extremely large portions look even tastier. A dozen regular-sized appetizers are all $5 during the special, along with selected well drinks and wines by the glass. Also available is $4 pints for Sam Adams Boston Lager, Blue Moon, and Stella Artois.

Double Stuffed Potato Spring Rolls: mashed potatoes, green onions, melted cheddar, bacon, and served with sour cream.

​ The Scene:The bar must have been created for people to immediately gravitate towards. It's the first thing you see when you walk into the restaurant. The liquor is stocked sky high and stools surround three sides. It's cozy and comfortable with a couple of televisions. When you hit up happy hour, you miss the dinner rush, which means waiting for a spot to grab a bite to eat and a drink is done without straining to hear your name called first.

The Cost: All appetizers, well drinks, selected wines, and drinks of the day are $5. Draft beers are $4.

The Verdict: I may or may not have a small obsession with the Asian Nachos and Double Stuffed Potato Spring Rolls (pictured). I would go to Grand Lux without a happy hour incentive, but I like that I can spend less money for the same amount of food. Trying out their daily drink specials, including a typhoon (white and dark rums and tropical fruit juices), is all the more reason to beat the rush and experiment.
