Last week, the James Beard Foundation announced its 2010 winners for food media and restaurants. Although South Florida had a few dogs in the race, Broward and Palm Beach didn't come up with any wins. But Miami's own Michael Schwartz of Michael's Genuine Food & Drink managed to snag Best Chef in the South. Congrats, Mr. Schwartz.

Other notable winners around the country: Daniel Boulud's Southern prodigy, Zach Bell, may not have taken home a Beard, but the Frenchman himself took home the Outstanding Restaurant award for his New York eatery, Daniel. Tom Colicchio of Bravo's Top Chef won Outstanding Chef of the Year, proving he knows a thing or two about that gig. Both chow.com and seriouseats.com won awards, and the Washington Post took Best Newspaper Food Section.

Finally, restaurant critic Jonathan Gold of our sister publication LA Weekly took home the Craig Claiborne Award for Distinguished Restaurant Reviews for his articles "Sauced," "Hot Birria, Cold Cerveca," and "Hare Today." Congrats, Mr. Gold. Perhaps he'll hang it next to his four other Beard awards and his Pulitzer. And Dana Moskowitz Grumdahl, formerly of Village Voice paper Minneapolis City Pages, won an award for her article "Chardonnay Uncorked" from Minnesota Monthly.
