Beerfest: Broward's Biggest Party Is Here

​You might think a name like Beerfest smacks of everything you need for a booming party. And you'd be right. At Saturday's event, there will be copious amounts of beer and near-endless festivities. Except this weekend's Beerfest on Himmarshee in downtown Fort Lauderdale piles on a whole lot more. For starters, there will be beer from more than 50 breweries, with many premium craft beers, microbrews, imports, and domestics. So you can mix your Sam Adams and Miller Genuine with a Young's Double Chocolate Stout and Fire Rock Pale Ale.

The newly expanded VIP area will take over the Museum of Discovery and Science, offering loads of food from great local restaurants, including Charm City Burger, Bravo Ristorante, Café Vico, Maracas, and Mugs Bar & Grill -- all in air-conditioned comfort. Crown Wine & Spirits will be passing around plenty of beer alternatives.

And you can expect some dirty blues and soul from local foursome Community Property, which is opening on the Beerfest stage after winning the New Times' Battle of the Bands contest last month. The group is writing a song about their favorite brews with the title "Heineken's My Friend, How About You?" Get to Beerfest, get your sampling cup, and you'll probably make a few new sudsy friends too.
