No. 26: Michelangelo Sandwich from Talia's Table

Talia's Table is nearly hidden off of Spanish River Boulevard in suburban Boca Raton. It's a tiny, cramped deli that looks like a Bronx tenement where every spare inch of exposed wood and brick is covered with Polaroid photographs of people posing with their food. And that food is impressive: hulking sandwiches, platters of shrimp with broccoli and potato, fat rigatoni pasta napped in homemade marinara. Talia's makes its own mozzarella, fennel sausage, and meatballs, all of which find their way onto those great sandwiches. The self-described best, though, is one called the Michelangelo. In between two pieces of crusty foccacia is piled thin chicken cutlets, roasted eggplant, charred red peppers, basil, marinara, and some of that homemade mozzarella. At less than $10, it's a huge sandwich that's like a fantastic antipasto platter laced with a bit of local sunshine. Enjoy one at the communal tables, with folks sharing meals family style and sipping $1 self-serve beer from plastic cups.
