Smaller Maison Carlos Reopens on South Dixie With New Menu, Same Owners
So Carlos and Lanie Farias have moved a scaled-back version of their eatery to Dixie Highway south of Belvedere. "It's five minutes from where we live -- it's so convenient. We want to spend time with our little guy, Alex -- he's 1 -- and this allows us to do that," Lanie Farias said. "It's got a lot of parking, and our clients, who are a little older, told us they really don't like going downtown any more."
The remodeled Chix-on-the-Block space that opened March 20 has only 40 seats, with
three tables outside. "It's nice to be able to see the whole restaurant from the kitchen doorway," she said. Longtime chef Robert Dedrick is still with them and still makes Bolognese, vodka, and vignole pasta sauces that wooed diners at the former location.
New menu items include a bucket of garlicky snails, a hanger steak with pommes frite "kissed" by truffle oil, and tilapia with a tarragon-infused cream sauce. "I like it better than yellowtail, though some people are just 'eh' about tilapia. It's a good mild fish," she said.
The décor of the one-room space is chic but simple -- intentionally not pretentious, she said. "It's updated, more contemporary, like the menu. We gutted the place and made the kitchen smaller and the dining room bigger. It's nice to start from scratch with all new equipment and new everything."
Maison Carlos is at 3010 S. Dixie Highway; call 561-659-6524. It's open for dinner from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
