Eggsotic Moves to Palm Beach With Tapas-Style Dinner Menu Added

Eggsotic's new Palm Beach location will serve a menu of tapas similar to these Spanish gems.
Fans of the teeny Eggsotic restaurant on Okeechobee Road in West Palm now have reason to head out to the island. Brothers Leonardo and Luis Espin roll out their new small-plate dinner menu Thursday at their 3-month-old Eggsotic at the Garden Palm Beach bistro.

Leonardo, the chef of the Venezuelan-born duo (Luis manages), says he based the plates on the classic elements: earth, water, wind and fire. "It will be tapas-style, but not traditional tapas," chef Leo said. "We'll have fois gras, quail and snapper - as well as tofu - not the tapas most people think of," he said.

He's careful about labeling it one cuisine or another -- Americans have a funny way of
thinking of Spanish food: paella and shrimp, he said. "We'll have them - and Serrano ham too." But his own spin will be evident throughout: curried shrimp, tofu, goat cheese, braised short ribs and more.

Plates will be tasting-sized - meant for noshing and sharing. "We made it so people can have more than one taste of things - we like variety and people can order more than one dish to try or share. We kept prices reasonable for the quality of foods - $7 to $14 mostly."

A wine list with Argentine and Chilean wines featured prominently pair up with the plates, though some domestics are on the list. Entertainment will be Flamenco and strolling guitars, and possibly other live acts Fridays and Saturdays once they're up to speed.

For fans of their current locale, no fear: their famous breakfast Benedicts and croque monsieur are still on the list for breakfast and lunches - the condo board that brought them in to run the property's restaurant expects three meals a day; all open to the public.

Look for a yellow awning to find the building at 140 Sunrise, Palm Beach. Sign laws don't permit their name on the building. Eggsotic at The Garden Club, 140 Sunrise, Palm Beach, 561-623-7553. The grand opening is at 7 p.m. March 25. It's open Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.; Sunday brunch at 7 a.m.
