No. 57: Jalea Mixta from El Rey de Pescado

Entire families can feast on a single order of deluxe jalea mixta from El Rey de Pescado at the Fort Lauderdale Swap Shop. A mammoth portion of fried jumbo calamari, tilapia, and shrimp comes coated in the same slightly spicy batter, fried crisp and served with slivers of red onion and a hill of lime wedges. The fat calamari rings are as tender as the younger variety usually is, while the shrimp, head and tail on, are perfect for eating peel, head, and all, like soft-shell crab or Japanese amaebi. Work your way far enough into the pile and you may find a prize in the shape of disc-like tostones, crunchy and chewy all at once. Best of all, this king-sized meal will set you back only $24 and comes with an exotic atmosphere of a South American-style produce market, complete with rumba DJ and lots of cold brews.
