100 Favorite Dishes: Steak Fries From Maguire's Hill 16
No. 78: Steak Fries From Maguire's Hill 16
If one thing is certain, it's that the Irish know potatoes. That goes double for an order of the thick-cut steak fries at Maguire's Hill 16, an Irish pub that's long served downtown Fort Lauderdale. It's not that the frittes are cut in house or soaked or prepped in any special way. It's that they're fried so expertly, to such a perfect crisp surrounding a white hot, mashed interior, that you can't help but shove them in your mouth hastily, burning tongue and palate in the process. Coated with a spice rack's worth of salt and pepper and dipped in -- of all things -- A1 Sauce, Maguire's steak fries are a indulgence worth noting -- especially after a few pints of Guiness (and maybe an Irish Car Bomb or three).
